The book focuses on parents taking responsibility for raising successful children. The eight chapters admonish parents to instill healthy eating habits, discipline, and take full responsibility for their child's education. All of this is presented in a very soft way through letters from dad to twin daughters.
Dad tells the story of one daughter that is recommended for Special Education Services by her Elementary Teacher. The parents refuse the recommendation and did not tell the daughter until she graduates from Emory University in Atlanta.
"There is a popular proverb that states, "It takes a village to raise a child." While I agree that children are brought up in communities, I also feel that parents are ultimately responsible for their children's upbringing. Children are sent to school to be taught by teachers, but parents are responsible for their education. Children are even sent to church to be taught, but parents are ultimately responsible for their spiritual upbringing. We should approach parenting with the idea that, although we have vast amounts of outside tools at our disposal, ultimate responsibility rests at our doorsteps."
