With the message of 'Breaking the Veil of Silence' the German pastor, theologian, and activist Jobst Bittner causes thousands of Americans to go on the streets on Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) on April 7 2013, in order to Break the Veil of Silence and to make a clear statement against modern anti-Semitism. The release of the book 'Breaking the Veil of Silence' will take place on April 3, 2013 at a Memorial Event that will be hosted by the March of Remembrance at the Church Centre for the United Nations in New York. Next to the author, Holocaust survivors Lore Oppenheimer und Elly Berkovits Gross, as well as descendants of German Nazi perpetrators will be present to tell their stories.

All over the world, we are seeing an unprecedented rise of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiments. In his latest book 'Breaking the Veil of Silence', Jobst Bittner writes in the light of the experience of German history. Hitler and the Holocaust were possible in Germany because of the silence of the vast majority. While the country in general worked through its past, the family histories were often kept sealed under a Veil of Silence. Jobst Bittner provides a discerning perspective on this veil through a blend of history, theology, and psychology. The book is a practical intervention to uproot all destructive tendencies of covering up the past, and to move forward into action.
On April 7, the message will be taken to the streets in the March of Remembrance by thousands of Americans in more than 45 cities in the U.S. Also initiated by Jobst Bittner and closely connected to the March of Remembrance is the March of Life, where descendants of Nazi perpetrators are going to historic places of the Holocaust to find words their fathers and grandfathers could not find. The March of Life has taken place in Germany twice (2007/2008), in the Ukraine (2010), in Latvia and Lithuania (2011), in Poland (2012) and will continue in other countries. In 2011, the March of Life received an award by the Israeli Knesset for its special efforts and support for Holocaust survivors.
