Laurie Friedman is the author of two series - the popular Mallory chapter books and The Mostly Miserable Life of April Sinclair for middle grade readers - as well as many picture books including "Thanksgiving Rules"; "Back-to-School Rules"; and "Love, Ruby Valentine." Her favorite birthday celebration was when she turned seven, when her mother made a cake shaped like a teddy bear and Laurie made her first and only TV appearance, on "The Bozo Show."

About the Illustrator
Teresa Murfin is the illustrator of several picture books, including "I'm Not Afraid of This Haunted House," "Thanksgiving Rules," and "Back-to-School Rules." She lives and works in Wales, UK. She remembers sneakily seeking out her birthday presents in her parents' wardrobe. She recommends perhaps not doing this, as you may ruin the surprise on the big day!
