A collection of unique tales with a distinct Australasian flavour await readers in the pages of author Billy Barnz' new book, Barnz Yarnz, a compilation containing a lifetime's worth of tales stemming from his personal experiences, including his time in the New Zealand Defence Force during the Vietnam War, as well as those of his family, friends and loved ones. Through this mixed narrative, readers can catch a glimpse of the culture in which Barnz was raised, and see snapshots of a life journey replete with a diverse menagerie of happenings.

By adopting a lighthearted style, and using everyday language in the Aussie and Kiwi vernacular, Barnz' makes his stories relatable to his readers, allowing them to develop a personal connection with him as they leaf through the pages of his book. In this vein, Barnz' tales are much like those of Aussie and Kiwi writers John O'Grady and Barry Crump, embodying the Australasian traditions of storytelling and 'yarning,' while portraying extraordinary events involving ordinary people. Barnz' work will appeal to young and old alike, most especially Australian and New Zealand readers of the baby boomer generation, for the stories are about lives and times they will undoubtedly recognize, appreciate and relate with.

The tales in Barnz Yarnz, with their casual tone and entertaining narrative, make for perfect yarns to be shared between friends sharing a drink or two in the pub. Moreover, the convenience of having multiple short stories contained in a pocket-sized book also makes Barnz' work a perfect travel companion for those seeking a laugh or two while on a plane, bus or train journey.

About the Author
Billy Barnz was born, raised and schooled in Wanganui, NZ. He finished and fine tuned at Duntroon, Australia; served the colours, travelled the globe, and then retired ungracefully from real work to write, in Christchurch. He was entertained in a pre-TV era on his dad's knee with readings from an old battered book of Banjo Paterson's poems, so he grew to love the old ballad and Australasian yarn. He has stayed the nuptial mile and five furlongs with the same lady, Heather of West Wyalong, for 40 odd years. Some of his stories testify to how odd and perilous a ride that must have been. Together, they raised four offspring who, in turn, begat five grandchildren, and a fine annual crop of spuds in the garden. Barnz also paints funny pictures and reads his short stories at a local gallery in Lincoln, Canterbury.
