Mays, whose new book Totem: Mastering Team Performance (Dog Ear Publishing) comes out Oct. 1, points out that being in a constant state of discontent at work is damaging and entirely an employee's choice. He says, "We are in charge of the world we create. We can manage the relationship [with our boss] without reacting and pointing the finger. We demonize our bosses and make them evil, failing to see the human being there."
