GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Sept. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ This Oct, 16 some 70 percent of employeesthe number who dislike their bosses according to a recent Gallup pollwill have little to celebrate. But that doesn't mean that their situation is hopeless. In fact, according to psychotherapist, author and business coach Dr. Kevin Mays, Bosses Day is a great time for employees to think about their relationship with their managers and the role the employees may be playing in their own workplace misery.

Mays, whose new book Totem: Mastering Team Performance (Dog Ear Publishing) comes out Oct. 1, points out that being in a constant state of discontent at work is damaging and entirely an employee's choice. He says, "We are in charge of the world we create. We can manage the relationship [with our boss] without reacting and pointing the finger. We demonize our bosses and make them evil, failing to see the human being there."

Mays explains:

  • How to change your boss by first changing your own behavior. Do so by becoming aware of your thoughts and noticing every time you blame someone else for something. When you change your thought process you change your brain's hardwiring.
  • Why lazy bosses produce better results.
  • How successful leaders are killing their organizations.
  • 3 keys to becoming the employee your boss loves to promote.
  • How to be among the 30 percent who like their bosses and what to get a "good" boss for Bosses Day.
