Author of New Book Says Fatherhood is for the Birds ... and That's a Good Thing

FLEMINGTON, N.J., June 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ As Father's Day approaches, it's time to thank Dad for the important role he plays in family leadership, and that means giving him props for helping the family fly in formation while providing lift for each and every member. Geese, swans and ducks do the same for their families, points out leadership expert Jackie Freedman, author of the new paperback edition of Updraft: The Aerodynamics of Great Leadership (Station Square Media: June 2017).

A frequent talk show guest with a terrific sense of humor, Freedman says the bird analogy applies in many ways to leadership at home and in the workplace. Freedman, who lives in the path of the Canada geese's Atlantic Flyway, developed her book's concept after watching hundreds of geese flying by. She was struck by the way the geese continually adjusted their positions to maintain the v-formation behind the leader. As she researched these birds, she learned how each goose supports the progress of the flock with the updraft that comes off its wingtip. She realized she had an easy-to-understand metaphor that applied perfectly to families and other organizations.
