Author Shows How Feminism and Humor Have Evolved in Last 60 Years

It is human nature to evolve, grow and change over time. Society and culture perpetually move forward, adapting and accepting new norms, customs and values. Many are too young to fully comprehend the ever-shifting nature of our culture. Well into her 70s, M'Lynn Childers now recalls the continuous and relentless change she has witnessed in nearly in decades of life. She shares her commentary on our evolving society in "Grass or Gas: No One Rides for Free."

"Grass or Gas" specifically focuses on the issues of sex, education, political correctness and the use of humor. Childers shares true stories from her idealistic and adventurous youth in the 60's and 70's, providing a direct comparison to today's fast-paced and impersonal society.

Childers provides a humorous account of her move from a stable midwestern community to the lively West Coast, as well as the culture shock that came with it. For 30 years, her beliefs and assumptions are tested as she attempts to find her footing in a rapidly evolving society.

"In my life, both feminism and humor have transformed into weapons used against individuals," Childers said. "Feminism has prompted more sexual freedom, which makes it difficult to maintain a relationship. In the world of comedy, we see humor used as a weapon to bring others down. About the author
When she graduated from Southwestern Methodist in Kansas in 1964, M'Lynn Alston Childers followed her family to Utah. Utah offered more opportunities to experience a new and invigorating culture, but she wouldn't be satisfied until she moved to California in 1969. M'Lynn earned her Master's in Professional Writing from the prestigious Spielberg/Lucas Graduate Department at the University of Southern California.
