History doesn't repeat itself, but oftentimes it rhymes.
In "Walking the Stones of Time," retired teacher Oswald Brown weaves his talent for fantastical storytelling into a tale of two lovers separated by social status and treachery in primitive Scotland.
The story unfolds as a young man makes it his mission to free a beautiful young girl from slavery. What follows is an adventurous story of deceit and betrayal overcome by courage, resolve and fidelity despite overwhelming odds.
A native of Scotland, Brown's story was inspired by the medieval castles and towers that still exist in the country today.
"This is a fantasy of time that might have been," Brown said. "These people existed and left their signs of being here, not only on the strange standing stones we pass daily without seeing them, but in the customs and the way they lived."
Through his book, Brown hopes to shine a light on the slave trade, emphasizing that slave labor and human trafficking are still prevalent in the modern world.
"As they lived, we live, trying to avoid some of the same scourges of society," Brown said. "Perfidy or fidelity? That is the question my story asks readers."
