Author Shares Story of Chance Meeting With WWII Veteran Image The beginning segment of Rachel G. Carrington’s life story, “The Early Years: A Memoir: Book 1” (published by iUniverse) chronicles Carrington’s youth and how a chance meeting changed the entire course of her life. Once on track to accept a lucrative, all-inclusive college scholarship, her plans were derailed when she met a recently returned World War II veteran. Their subsequent romance shaped the direction of both their lives, and Carrington looks back on their life and love in her memoir. The book is available for purchase at: https://www.amazon.com/Early-Years-Memoir-Carrington-2015-07-13/dp/B01K1714U6/.

The oldest of 11 children, Carrington had moved away from her family home in southern Kentucky before her five youngest sisters were born. Later, as they grew older and sought to reconnect, they created what they called “Sister Sessions” to share their stories with one another. It was during one such session that Carrington was asked about her youth.

“I really left them wanting for more details and they started asking if I would audio tape the story or write it down for all of them,” Carrington explains. “That gave them the idea of a book and I was urged from that moment on to write my book.”

As Carrington’s story unfolds, she reveals the struggles she and her future husband faced as they navigated life post-WWII, the differences in culture between people raised in the city versus people raised in the country and the sudden changes employment opportunities can bring. It is ultimately a story about enduring love and how their trust in God helped Carrington and her husband overcome every adversity.
