LONDON

From a small town in Austria, author Sebastian Bartók traveled extensively through Western Europe at the age of 17. During his travels, he met and fell in love with a young Finnish girl, with whom he fathered a child. But not even Maja could compare to the gay companion Bartók found in Frederic, who would become Bartók's friend and lover for more than 50 years.

Bartók presents an honest recounting of his days with Frederic in his newly published memoir, "Mandryka: When We First Met, He Called Me Mandryka" (published by AuthorHouse UK).

In 1944 Frederic and Sebastian met as children. A little over 20 years later, the two crossed paths again in Munich, where they fell in love and began a lifetime of companionship and travel. Through honest and heartfelt stories, Bartók memorializes his longtime lover and the experiences they shared traveling the world for nearly 50 years.

An excerpt from "Mandryka":

"All I could do was ask him, as casually as possible, whether he would like a drink. It was just like two sparks fused. With too much ado, he quite nonchalantly replied, 'If you must,' just as Sebastian Flyte might have done, outrageously, in Brideshead Revisited. My mind was in turmoil. Had I fallen in love with another young man? Was this what I was looking for? It seemed to be a fatal attraction."
