In "War in the Forest" (published by Trafford Publishing), Muriithi Kiboi gives an insight of his father's memoir, "Kiboi Muriithi,"which is getting a revised marketing push. Readers find themselves face to face with Kiboi Muriithi, better known as General Kamwana, the leader of the Mau Mau army and the liberator of Kenya from the British colonial rule between 1951-1963.
"War in the Forest" brings readers into the world of economic, political and social confusion that the Mau Mau had to navigate through to reclaim their freedom and land from the British. "The Mau Mau knew that the British would balkanize the Africans through a 'divide and rule' policy," explains Muriithi. "This would force them to pledge allegiance to British rule or face death." As readers progress through the text, they are shown the battles General Kamwana fought, as well as the frustrations and hardships he experienced in fighting a superior army for five years.
Kiboi speaks fondly of his father, General Kamwana, saying, "The pains, the wounds, the agony and loneliness he suffered at one period when he was left alone in the forest is an emotive adventure which cannot be endured without resilience, fortitude and a high sense of patriotism. He is a brave, crafty and intelligent soldier who commands admiration from both the seniors and the juniors alike."
An excerpt from "War in the Forest":
"I scrambled on my knees through the grass. Escape was the one thought in my mind. In front was the edge of the forest and sanctuary. Behind, ambush, the bodies on my comrades, capture. I reached the trees as bullets sucked across the clearing. Safety was a step away, but before I could grasp it a chill stabbed my stomach."
A book which details an important moment in history, "War in the Forest" embodies a patriotic fight for freedom that will inspire people across the world.
