In her debut novel "Scared to Life" (published by WestBow Press), author Mikki Sewalt pens a richly-drawn thriller with a social message.

"Scared to Life" tells the story of Paige Shugar. Divorced and free from her abusive husband, Paige moves to Pennsylvania's Amish country in hopes that the quiet surroundings will bring her the joy and peace she so desires. But peace is hard won, and Paige soon worries that her abuser will find her once again. R.J., the town's chief of police, aims to protect Paige by any means necessary, and win her trust and love in the process. Scared and unsure, Paige must decide how best to protect herself while opening her heart.

"The book is full of humor, suspense, mystery and love," says Sewalt, who hopes her book inspires readers who identify with Paige. "Abuse happens every day and every minute to a woman somewhere - whether it is emotional or physical. The book tells them how to be released from the bondage of Satan, and gives them hope by trusting Jesus no matter what the circumstances may be."
