Author Looks Back to BOYS OF SUMMER

SYRACUSE, N.Y.

For centuries, the United States has been revered as a place filled with opportunity for all, a country where anything was possible if one worked hard enough.

Lucien N. Plante is a first generation American whose parents emigrated from Canada so that their children could live this "American dream."

From a young age, Plante pursued that opportunity. "My parents knew how to work hard and complain little," he said. "They always expected us to try."

And try, he did. After proudly serving in the U.S. Marines, Plante went on to become a process engineer at a prominent manufacturer. His hard work and success there allowed him to retire early.

Now, Plante shares stories of what life might have been like for some of the earlier citizens of the country of which he is so thankful to be a part. His new novel, "Boys of Summer," explores the lives of two families during the Civil War era.

Readers follow the main characters through times of love and loss, celebration and despair. Although the protagonists experience pain in the winter of their lives, the author reminds readers that hope springs eternal in summer.

Lucien N. Plante is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a retired engineer. He married his high school sweetheart; together they have four children and sixteen grandchildren. In addition to his family, he loves history and the great outdoors. He has spent many days (maybe years) of his life roaming the Adirondacks.
