Former drug addict Jay Furr outlines five steps to recovery and hope in his book "I Surrender All."
In the book, Furr explains the five steps to sobriety he believes leads to a successful recovery without any relapses. He rejects the idea that a relapse is necessary to recovery and suggests that addicts surrender themselves to God and a life of service.
"I Surrender All" conveys a message of hope above all else. Furr understands the challenge in finding and holding on to hope all too well. His addiction started with prescription pills and quickly led to hard, highly addictive substances like cocaine and methamphetamines. After a short recovery and successful business venture, Furr relapsed and was forced to start from scratch again.
Everything changed, Furr says, when he found spirituality. He then developed five steps for others who are battling similar demons. Furr has been sober since 2006 and currently owns a business in Panama City, Fla.
In the end, Furr hopes to help addicts and their families discover a life after addiction.
"There is hope," he says. "You don't have to relapse. God is real and success is right around the corner."
