Author Emma Berg Invites the Readers to Witness 'Dreamcatch' Image When Emma Berg was younger, she frequently experienced nightmares, and thought what a relief it would be if someone could stop the nightmares before they get to her. This thinking prompted her to pen “Dreamcatch” (published by Xlibris). The book is about dreams but centers on the theme of man versus self and how far some people are willing to go for others. Berg further explains that the book is about a society of specialized individuals who go around collecting people’s nightmares and dreams, but the method that these people use takes a toll on their minds and bodies.

The book follows the life of Joseph Archer who has been spending his days as a live-in servant for the family who bought his family’s ancestral home, and he is living peacefully. His uneventful days come to an end when he meets a Catcher named Madeleine, who has come to catch the dreams of young master Thomas. In a fit of temper, Joseph touches the Catcher’s hood, which begins his own transformation into being a Catcher. Through his travels, Joseph tries to understand his new world, learning the secrets of the Catcher’s trade and the motivations of Madeleine, who is hell-bent on finding a cure for her affliction.

“I believe that many people, if not all, are in the process of becoming who they want to be. This book is very introspective in regards to the characters and it will hopefully allow people to see that even darkness has a purpose, to not sound too clichéd,” Berg expresses.

With the book’s story, Berg ultimately imparts the message to readers to, “not judge too harshly, either yourself or anyone else. Be able to help others no matter your circumstances and don’t fall into the self-perpetuating cycle of self-pity.”
