The public is invited to become members and tour world's largest chimpanzee sanctuary during Member Day.
A Beautiful Truth on a Beautiful Day
Save the Chimps recently announced a special fundraising partnership with Soho Press, the publishers of Colin McAdam's wonderful novel A BEAUTIFUL TRUTH. Now they would like to welcome Soho Press and author Colin McAdam to their Member Day on Saturday, September 21st. In association with their neighborhood independent bookseller Vero Beach Book Center, Colin McAdam will be on hand to sign and sell copies of this very special book.
Look for Colin McAdam and Soho's Paul Oliver under the pavilion at the entrance to Member Day.
Why We Partnered
A BEAUTIFUL TRUTH is a powerful, touching book about the lives of a few dozen chimpanzees in different circumstances. One of them is the ill-fated "adopted" child of a human family in Vermont. Other chimps are involved in a language research program at a fictive (but very realistic) research facility. These portions explore the complexity of the chimpanzee mind and demonstrate just how remarkable our closest relative is. That very same facility has a darker, crueler side to it, as it is funded by medical research programs that yet another group of chimps are subjected to. The chimps that feature in McAdam's novel, from the adopted Looee to the unfortunate victims of experiments, are experiencing some of the very same things that our chimps experienced before being rescued.
This isn't a novel that's just about chimps. It's about humans too. McAdam's novel seeks to prove "the truth in our blood." Namely that we are not merely descended from apes, but in fact are apes.
Soho Press has offered to donate a portion of all proceeds of A BEAUTIFUL TRUTH (print and digital) to Save the Chimps. Save the Chimps receives even more money when you buy the book directly from them, in which case 50% of profits benefit the chimps.
A good book and a good cause... What's not to love?

What to Expect on the Tour
The walking tour covers 1.25 miles of the expansive 150-acre sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida. Members will observe the chimpanzees as they roam the islands of grass, palm trees, hills, and climbing structures that allow the chimps to run and play, visit with friends or find a quiet corner to relax, bask in the sun or curl up in the shade.
About Save the Chimps
Save the Chimps was founded in 1997 by Carole Noon, Ph.D. who was inspired to help chimpanzees after meeting Dr. Jane Goodall in the early 1980's. She received her Ph.D. in biological anthropology from the University of Florida, specializing in the socialization of captive chimpanzees. Dr. Noon founded Save the Chimps to provide permanent sanctuary to chimpanzees being abandoned by the United States Air Force. The Air Force rejected her proposal to care for the chimpanzees and instead gave them to the Coulston Foundation. Dr. Noon sued the Air Force on behalf of the Coulston chimpanzees. After a year-long legal struggle, the lawsuit was settled out of court in Dr. Noon's favor. With generous financial support provided by the Arcus Foundation, 266 chimpanzees were rescued from Coulston and now call the 150-acre Save the Chimps sanctuary in Ft. Pierce, FL, their permanent home.
Save the Chimps is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing permanent sanctuary for the lifelong care of chimpanzees rescued from research laboratories, the entertainment industry and the pet trade. For more information, visit
