Compelling and inspirational, Called to Serve shares a biographical account of Gerald Austin Beasley and Clara Pauline Smith, two people who united as one, parented six children and propagated generations of Christian service. Created by author Carmen L. Lewis, the daughter of Beasley and Smith, this book shares eye-opening insights that allow readers to appreciate the value of endurance amidst times of adversity and trials.
Set in various times in history Called to Serve takes readers back in time, illustrating what life was like in the past and how it molded the characters of two people who eventually became beacons of inspiration not only to their children but also to those whose lives they significantly touched through service. Beginning in the early 1900's, Called to Serve illustrates life in rural Oklahoma. Gerald Beasley and Pauline Smith both grew up in different rural areas of Oklahoma during the Great Depression and worked beside their families to survive. They met at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater and eventually married after Beasley was drafted into the army to serve in the European theater during World War II. After the war, the young couple prepared for ministry and served together in churches of Christ in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Montana.
A beacon of inspiration to those who would follow in ministry, this true-to-life story is a myriad of spiritually uplifting lessons which testify that by leaning on the strength of God, the human spirit can endure trials and adversities and be enabled to serve others affectively.
