Always trying to fit in and figure out how where to position himself in society since he was twelve years old, author Roland Alric finally found his niche. It is part of a journey he shares even as his life is caught in the turbulent pass of HIV-AIDS infection that will be an inspiration and a lesson for readers of his memoir. Dedicating his new book to his beloved daughters, Alric dismantles the wall he hid behind for so long and tells readers "The Truth Behind A Happy Face".

Living unsure of his sexual identity in his early years, Alric chronicles the difficulties and the pressure he has faced bravely; coming out of his struggles as a better and confident individual and person. Due to his confusion with regards to his sexual orientation and preference during his early years, he tells of the mental fight that nearly drove him to madness, on the verge of committing suicide, a direction which he thankfully did not pursue. After surviving the war within, he entered another war, a do-or-die battle against the AIDS virus. After he acquired the disease, Alric became convinced that he led a life that needed to be told in order to share a journey of inspiration.

Reflecting on the life of a homosexual and a person who lives each day with the threats of HIV, Alric wants readers to know that issues and problems in life are better faced with great determination to survive and the will to live life and be a winner. Living while taking full responsibility of oneself together with unending support and love from family and friends is Alric's sure formula of overcoming life's trials.

Finally, Alric uses "The Truth Behind A Happy Face" to extend his love and heartfelt gratitude to his two children who have given him strength to always find a way to move forward in his life. They are the inspiration in the fight for his life. So, too, are the parents who taught him to have courage, strength, and compassion for others. From them, he has learned and continues to learn with true unconditional love given in its fullest.
