In his new book, "The Survival Mindset: A Systematic Approach to Combating Corruption in Nigeria" (published by iUniverse), author Arnold Obomanu identifies and describes the challenges affecting the current socio-political atmosphere in Nigeria and presents a model for reform.

"On a daily basis, I see the sheer waste of lives and resources in my country as we victimize each other, and I think we can change things," Obomanu, a native Nigerian, writes. "Everybody is blaming everybody else and we all seem to be hoping for a Messiah due to the complexity of the situation, but I see there is so much we can do right now."

Combining real-life examples from present-day Nigeria with research into the country's history, "The Survival Mindset" seeks to provide answers to what keeps corruption thriving throughout Nigeria and outlines practical ways for ordinary people without political power to initiate and support lasting changes.

An excerpt from "The Survival Mindset":

"Most Nigerians do not believe anyone is seriously working to ensure that they get their fair share of whatever is due them ... This ... drives a survival-of-the-fittest, every-man-for-himself mind-set which pervades every activity, dictates the rules of engagement between citizens, and fashions the pattern of everyday life in Nigeria. This subconscious state or mind-set, by guiding the thoughts and actions of the majority of Nigerians, is the brush that paints the picture of Nigeria."
