According to author Ari S. Maharaj, teenage years is sometimes the toughest especially when many things seem so novel. On the cusp of adulthood it seems that falling in love, peer pressure and even planning a career have all painted the future as very complicated. His new publication, The Morne Diablo Adventures, is a humorous tale that reignites nostalgic period of not too long ago and mirrors events that many families confront.

The book narrates the adventures of a teenage boy and his friends after having just completed their final exams. It humorously depicts the challenges they face as young adults in making decisions about their future. It introduces the boy named Suki who is raised by his grandmother in rural Trinidad. It was a time of high unemployment and most of Suki's family believes there is no merit to higher education. They view migrating to North America as the only option for a better life. Suki's distrust for his family's outlook, toppled with his own insecurities, paves an entertaining story on how he navigates through unfamiliar terrain to find the answers.

Life for him revolves around school, working in the garden and selling at the market on weekends with his grandmother. He yearns for the opportunities of having a better life similar to those he has read. The reality however is that in a country marred by recession, prospects are few and far especially with non-existent parents, entrenched family values that hinge on beliefs rather than experience and the steep financial burdens endured by his grandmother to raise him. These uncertainties do not dispel his faith that maybe, through this mysterious clutter there is hope to be found. Each of his adventures seems to add one more clue that may answer his riddle.

Highly imaginative with a healthy dose of humor, The Morne Diablo Adventures opens the minds of the readers to situations and feelings that are universal but because of the uniqueness of each individual, the country setting, and the host of other experiences, it has created that distinctiveness that will endear them into the story.
