Author Anne Vondruska believes childbirth is a beautiful thing of which children should never be scared. She felt so strongly about this that she did something uncommon in today's society - she included her two children in the birthing process of their little brother.

Anne Vondruska and her daughter, Katarina Vondruska, tell the story of the newest Vondruska's entry into the family in their book "I Watched My Brother Being Born: Including Children at Birth" (published by Trafford Publishing).

When she learned she was pregnant with her third child, Anne Vondruska decided to do things differently and began educating her two children on pregnancy and childbirth. She also made the decision to have a natural birth in her family's home. With the help of a midwife, a doula - a woman who assists the mother before, during and after childbirth - and her children, she gave birth to her third child, Christian.

Throughout "I Watched My Brother Being Born," readers will follow Katarina Vondruska and her younger brother as they learn about the process of pregnancy and childbirth. It is Anne Vondruska's hope that the book's text and photos will help children understand and appreciate childbirth and its beauty.

"In writing this book, I wish to share my family's experiences with birth professionals as well as expectant parents," Anne Vondruska says, "not only to show them the many choices they have in planning their child's birth, but also the ways they can involve the child's siblings in the birth process."
