Author Anne Mackey's "The Big Bad Wolf Had Blue Eyes" (published by iUniverse) is the heart-breaking yet inspiring story of Patricia McLaren and the many struggles she has to overcome in her life.

At the tender age of eight, Patricia's life is turned upside down by the arrival of her overbearing and controlling mother. She is forced to separate from her loving foster family and live a nomadic life with her mother. The story follows Patricia as she grows into a young woman under the shadow of her cruel mom and stepfather.

Patricia faces many challenges in her life from being sexually abused by her uncle to being thrown into a juvenile detention center. Mackey chronicles the anger, shame, and depression Patricia goes through as she tries to pick up the pieces of her life and move forward while still fighting for justice and redemption.

Even though it is a work of fiction, Patricia's story of triumph over adversity will speak to those who have been victims of abuse. According to Child Help, every year there are more than 3.3 million reports of child abuse in the United States. What's more, American Nurse Today released research last year which details why adults who have been abused as children are more prone to illnesses such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and depression. Mackey's story of a girl who has to overcome the worst odds is poised to help thousands of people heal and cope with their own experiences in a better way.
