Rossi Ross is the first 10-year-old to read his favorite book, "Brigand Bleu," 10 times - and in doing so, has freed the titular hero of the book for his one and only chance at a real-life adventure in Ann Jon's new children's novel, "Boogey Raider" (published by Archway Publishing).

In the novel, Bleu drags the boy off on a wild attempt at thievery in the dreams of King Louis IX, some 760 years ago. But due to Bleu's unexpected incapacitation, Rossi discovers he is the only one with the ability to save France's past and present by locating and returning a missing emerald to the king. Meanwhile, he must also find the hidden clause buried deep within Brigand Bleu's original book. If he does not, both he and the fictional blue thief will be trapped in limbo forever, unable to return to their rightful places.

Jon notes that the book is "old school with a big modern day twist." The narrative interconnects contemporary characters with characters that come from previous centuries.

The story also offers readers a sense of empowerment: "My goal is for the readers of my books to take away a feeling of triumph and endorsement for the characters, the story and for themselves as readers," Jon explains.
