Just two weeks after the announcement of the NAPPA recognition for Ancient and Epic Tales from Around the World, the Parents' Choice Foundation announced a Parents' Choice Recommendation for Heather Forest's remarkable anthology of stories from the world's great oral traditions.
Published in April, Ancient and Epic Tales from Around the World marks the second occurrence that one of Heather Forest's books has received this prestigious award from the Parents' Choice Foundation. Her first Parents' Choice Award was for the best-selling LittleFolk picture book, Stone Soup.
Ancient and Epic Tales from Around the World is the third and final installment in her Tales from Around the World trilogy. The previous two books in the series, Wonder Tales from Around the World and Wisdom Tales from Around the World both won the Storytelling World Anthology Award and the PLAPLA/ALLS Best New Books award. Heather lives on Long Island in Huntington, New York and frequently collaborates with the award-winning illustrator, Susan Gaber. Together this creative team has published five LittleFolk picture books with August House.
Established in 1978, the Parents' Choice Foundation is the oldest non-profit organization dedicated to ranking the highest quality products for children's toys and media. In a review by Dr. Flora Joy, the highly respected authority on folktales and storytelling, praised the stories as "superbly composed to further understand and appreciate the principles and virtues that inform our lives."
