The world is wealthier than it's ever been in human history, but why is there such a large gap between the rich and poor?
Kimon Valaskakis, current president of New School of Athens, is a professor emeritus of economics and former Canadian ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He uses his extensive background in education, economics and international affairs to argue against current public policies and to illustrate how, if not fundamentally changed, they will perpetually fail.
His new book, "Buffets and Breadlines," explores the current economic status of the world and the mismanagement of resources in today's society. Featuring a variety of characters that represent different schools of thought, the book allows for an in-depth, clear and entertaining look at rival theories, ideas and ideological positions.
"The unequal distribution of wealth, due to mismanagement rather than true scarcity, leads us to develop ineffective policies," Valaskakis said. "I have an optimistic view of our potential future and I don't want to see it wasted by global negligence and counterproductive ideas."
"Buffets and Breadlines" is the first book in a trilogy that works to dispel multiple socio-economic myths. Valaskakis encourages discussion and provides alternatives to the current situation.
