Alan Rose's Memoir Explores SEX AND ALCOHOL IN RETIREMENT

For many, retirement is a time when life seems to slow down; with fewer responsibilities, retirees are able to travel, spend time with family, or do other things they've always wanted to do. "When I retired from the National Health Service at the at the age of 65 in 1990 I expected to have little professional work to do. Having been a Chemical Pathologist for 25 years and in charge of both a routine and research laboratory I would be unable to function in the private field without a large laboratory at my disposal and this was clearly impossible. True I had a small medicolegal practice in the drink-driving field but I thought that this would gradually dwindle away as news of my retirement spread.

The second part of "Sex and Alcohol in Retirement" explores Rose's time as an expert witness in many drunk-driving cases.

About the Author
Alan Rose took his first degree in chemistry at the end of World War II. He then developed an interest in biochemistry and, after working in research biochemistry, was advised to go and take a degree in medicine, which he completed in 1954. After two hospital house jobs, he spent his remaining career years in clinical research, studying at different times inborn errors of metabolism, metabolic bone diseases such as osteoporosis, vitamin D resistant rickets and hyperparathyroidism. Finally, he worked on the formation and prevention of renal stones. He wrote 200 or more original papers and in the last 10 years before retirement traveled the world as an invited speaker at many conferences.
