Emphasizing the importance of effort over winning, author Teresa Marren penned her new children's book "Adelina Carolina in The Swim Meet" (published by AuthorHouse) to inspire children to pursue their goals with passion.

Adelina Carolina loves to compete in swimming, her favorite sport. During one of her meets, Adelina accidentally swims in the wrong direction and ends up back at her starting point.

While disappointed, her coach realizes Adelina was a winner all along. The coach then praises Adelina for her graceful acceptance of defeat, explaining that everyone wins when they work hard to improve.

"I think this book will appeal to readers who have known how it feels to lose a competition by making a mistake that is well noticed by the audience, and to have to face it by walking off-stage, so to speak, to finger-pointing," Marren says.

Marren hopes the book will help children realize the power of motivation. The author, herself, has empathy for young competitors; Marren took part in swimming, poetry, piano and cooking contests as a young person.
