In just three years, the social enterprise non-profit Little Free Library has helped open 30,000 micro-libraries cared for by dedicated volunteer stewards who build literacy-friendly neighborhoods in every state and Canadian province and in 80 other countries around the world. Approximately 150,000 books a day are exchanged through Little Free Library's network and nearly 1,000 new stewards a month sign-up to become a part of the book sharing movement that promotes literacy for millions of all ages.
The help celebrate reaching the 30,000 micro-library milestone, Little Free Library is going on the road stopping at five destinations important to its development as a global grassroots movement: Madison, Springfield, Detroit, Cleveland and the Library of Congress in Washington for its National Book Festival. Along with co-hosts, the Centers of the Book of Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio, Little Free Library will hold Big Little Builds for the public to build micro-libraries that will be installed in high needs areas. In addition, City of Distinction awards will be given to the mayors of each city. Other events and meetings with key partners and stewards are scheduled.
