MELBOURNE, Australia - According to arkofhopeforchildren.org, 40 million children become victims of abuse every year. Child abuse survivor Rosie Banyan sheds light on the harrowing ordeal that victims go through in her book, "What Once Broke 'Me'" (published by Xlibris AU). More importantly, this is a story of survival and finding hope and healing in the midst of life-changing trauma.
Born in the late 1960s, Banyan endured a terrifying sexually abusive childhood. She grew to learn how to mask dysfunction. Living mostly in her head, she thrived in the academic world of finance and business. Her bubble of reality burst just after the birth of her fourth son. A wave of postnatal depression debilitated her and forced her to look at the horrors of her traumatic childhood. Reeling from the blocked pain and memories, Banyan sought answers to who she was and how she had become a slave to the numbness required to survive.
At this breaking point in her life, she left everything familiar and flew to Mauritius with the hopes of getting back her broken pieces. "What Once Broke 'Me'" charts her journey to personal healing and gives inspiration to anyone who wants to experience wholeness and an authentic sense of self.
"Today we are taught how to be by our environments, parents, peers and we forget how to simply be a complete real self," Banyan says. "This book is perfect for anyone that has questioned how to undo a taught life to begin to live authentically."
