When a famous musician loses his ability to compose after brain surgery, he must adjust to his new life in A.S. Breslauer's "Second Acts: A Novel" (published by iUniverse). The author has launched a new marketing push for the book.
Inspired by the life and early death of legendary composer George Gershwin, Breslauer writes about Jason Gilbert, a composer who undergoes brain surgery for debilitating headaches and loses his ability to compose. Realizing his plight, Gilbert searches for a new life and finds himself in Paris, a place where he once had musical triumphs, but now gets caught up in an escapade with famous journalists, Soviet secret police, an attractive divorcee and desperate musicians.
An excerpt from "Second Acts":
In his apartment on Riverside Drive, it did not take long to realize what was wrong. Birds perched on the many small trees on his balcony gave him the first signal, and he gasped. He knew some were songbirds; they were always there. He listened intently. They were singing all right. But there was something wrong with the sound: a sameness.
