CHARLOTTE, N.C.
"People love the childhood classics but with more maturity so that it can be relatable to all ages," says author Regina Melody Renee. With Disney set to release a Cinderella movie this year, she thought to add her own dark, unsuspecting twists to this classic tale with her latest novel, "Anti-Cinderella" (published by Xlibris).
Good intentions lead to deadly consequences in Renee's retelling of the Cinderella story. Anya is a fiery heroin whose dream is to marry the prince. But nothing is ever simple. Anya and her friends discover dark plots in this glittering world, and she soon learns that she must sacrifice someone close to her for her dream, or sacrifice her dream to save an entire kingdom. In either case, someone's happy ending is another's tragedy.
"Sometimes to have a dream you must first have a nightmare," says Renee as she describes the essence of her tale. She means for her story to make people think, and hopefully understand, that what they have in store for themselves may not be what life has in store for them, and that may not be such a bad thing.
