Author Daniel Armiss explores the implications of technological advancement using the fall of Atlantis as an example in his thought-provoking new novel "An Atlantean Tale: Broken World" (published by iUniverse).
"We live in an ever-changing world," Armiss writes. "Technology is moving forward at an unprecedented pace and new advancements are being made in breakthroughs on various fronts. On a world scale we live in a very uncertain time as well, and thus this book is a thought on it. In a world of advancements at what point will we cross a line that should remain undisturbed?"
At its core, "An Atlantean Tale" is essentially a story of the people of Atlantis up to their final days as a civilization. It looks at the moral ambiguities of right and wrong and the struggles of advancement in the name of perfection. Armiss looks at how the civilization's peak was in fact what brought about its demise and reminds readers that, in spite of a relentless quest for perfection, humanity has never been, and will never be, completely perfect.
"The 'old and obsolete' are the reason why the 'new and improved' still exist," Armiss explains. "Thus there are some points when we as a people should not disturb what should not be disturbed because there are lines that exist that we as mere humans have no concept of when wrapped up in our own desires. Essentially there are points when imperfection is the true perfection."
