ABC's GOOD MORNING AMERICA Names Lara Spencer New Third Anchor

According to Variety, Lara Spencer, who previously served as the newsreader on ABC's GOOD MORNING AMERICA has been promoted to anchor. With the recent departure of Josh Elliot, Spencer will stand along co-hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopolos.

GMA is looking to maintain its morning-show ratings' edge over NBC's rival TODAY SHOW after losing two popular fixtures, Elliot and weatherman Sam Champion, who left for the Weather Channel.

Spencer recently negotiated a new contract to remain with ABC.
