In the United States alone, 1 in 6 children and adolescents are affected by obesity, but what steps are we taking to insure the healthiness of our future leaders?
In "A Young Person's Guide to Healthy Eating and Longevity," Dr. Vincent N. Cefalu provides a how-to guide for today's youths to be healthy physically and mentally and to make smart decisions when it comes to extra curricular activities like drugs, sex and drinking.
"I think often times, young people aren't fully aware of the serious mental and physical impact of obesity," Cefalu said. "It's not just an adult problem anymore."
Cefalu educates his audience with personal experiences of obesity, health issues and also 30 years as a practicing medical doctor in Louisiana.
"I want young people to realize that they aren't invincible," Cefalu said. "I've been there. I was obese and suffering from multiple health problems, and I want to prevent as many people from being in that position as possible."
