"It's an easy read for beginning readers, and the pictures are fun to look at and easy to follow through the book for children that haven't yet begun to read," Asay explains.
Mertle the turtle takes readers on a journey with her as she makes her way through the zoo after it closes for the night. Along the way, Mertle meets both old and new friends such as Sunny the bunny, Powell the owl, Smicket the cricket and Amanda the panda. Intended to be a bedtime story, each animal says goodnight when the adventure is over.
"I think it's important to always be encouraging children to take adventures through books, and to be encouraging parents to read to their children," Asay says. "It's becoming a lost tradition, but I think this book can really help remind us how special it is to spend time together as a family, reading and enjoying books."
