PEARLAND, Texas
Margaret Parker's son made a very unique wish for his 6th birthday. This inspired her to write the children's book, "A Tall Texas Tale" (published by Xlibris), a story about a boy who made the same wish and actually has it coming true.
Nick was born to a short father and an even shorter mom. He soon realizes that he will grow into a short man so, on his third birthday, he makes a bizarre wish. He wished to be as tall in feet as his age in years and he actually starts growing a foot each year after that. He eventually outgrows all normal buildings and has to stay in the barn. He becomes a tourist attraction, becomes very famous and he is offered a new home, which turns out to be the Houston Astrodome.
The book ends with the following lines, "The Houston Astrodome is 208 feet tall at its highest point. How old would Nick be when he would finally outgrow his new home? And could he even live that long? Well, in Texas maybe even that is possible!"
"A Tall Texas Tale" is a tall tale in the tradition of American folktales. In her years as a librarian, Parker has noted how kids loved tall tales and stories about wishes. She hopes that her story will bring a few laughs, maybe learn a little bit of Houston history and even a touch of math.

About the Author
Margaret Parker lives in Texas. She has always loved to read. She and her sister, the illustrator of the book, did the summer reading program when they were little kids, walking to the public library or the bookmobile, even on the hottest days in West Texas. Both of their parents were avid readers, so it is in the blood. She is a retired school librarian and her favorite part of the job was when she would read to the classes.
