"A Stroke Luck" is the detailed account of Alex Dixon, a young girl stricken with a serious illness.
Alex is a healthy 12 year old who is suddenly hindered with a mysterious and debilitating illness. Traditional treatments relying on physical therapy and medication fail to relieve Alex's acute pain and muscle spasms. With no other solutions the doctors are driven to drastic measures. Surgically embedded wires are inserted deeply into her brain which are then connected to a battery implanted in her chest. While it did relieve the pain and spasms it also had unexpected results.
Eric A. Sheldon, M.D., Founder and Medical Director at Miami Research Associates stated, "Juli and Jessica recount their family's heartbreaking journey, teaching us the healing power of optimism, love, and determination. Humbled by the anguish, family and friends were and are inspired by the defining choices of hope over sorrow as well as action over complacency."
Driven to chronicle the journey, Juli Dixon, (a prolific author and professor of mathematics education at the University of Central Florida) along with her daughter Jessica who began this book when she was 11 years old, tells the inspiring and true story of a close-knit family that met every challenge with a resilience, hope and love that is unmatched. Tara Saltzman, the voice of multiple BFV titles, lends her considerable talent to the project.
"A Stroke of Luck," in audiobook format is scheduled for release this September and will be available through all of BFV's normal channels of distribution.
