RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif.
With only 1 percent of Americans suffering from schizophrenia, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, this disease may still seem mysterious to much of the general public. Author Aaron Samuel Wallman hopes to clear up common misconceptions of the disease by chronicling his own struggle with schizophrenia in the new book, "A Schizophrenic's Search for Logic" (published by Trafford Publishing).
"People will be interested in my book because it discusses how a schizophrenic person thinks with his visual and auditory hallucinations," Wallman says. "Also, it teaches people how to overcome it."
Wallman aims to view schizophrenia through the lens of logic. He incorporates the teachings of scientists and philosophers, which he believes will show how logic can overcome anything, even schizophrenia.
Wallman asserts that with the rise of violent crimes in the United States that it is even more important to have an accurate understanding of mental illness. It is his belief that many of these criminals may suffer from some form of mental illness. He also believes that the knowledge his book contains will help explain the prevalence of homelessness in our country. The first step to curbing these issues, Wallman believes, is proper knowledge and empathy toward those with schizophrenia.
