BRAIDWOOD, Australia

Visits to her grandmother inspired author R.A. Soames to write from the perspective of a character confined to a nursing home. This idea germinated into her new book "1911: Imogene's Story" (published by Balboa Press AU), which tells the story of a nursing home resident with an amazing story to tell.

This book takes readers back to a time in Australia's history far different than the present, a time when men and women had very segregated roles. Readers journey with Imogene back to her life as a young woman in the early 1900s. Imogene shares the love, lust, abuse and betrayal that haunt her to this day.

An excerpt from "1911":

"Alas, rest was not to come to me for many an hour following. Observing someone I trusted, respected and admired, revert to such brutal, violent and erratic behaviour, certainly made me question who this man was I had married just two days prior."

"Short and succinct, this is a story that takes the reader on a journey back in time to an age of assumed innocence," Soames says, "a story where the reader sees the archetypical 'Australian male' in a very different light."
