Aurora Players' production of Deathtrap has the distinction of being directed by Christine Estabrook, an East Aurora native who performed on the Aurora Players stage as a youngster and went on to become a professional actor on Broadway as well as for TV and film.
Deathtrap is set in the cozy confines of a secluded writer's studio, where Sidney Bruhl, a struggling playwright without a hit in 18 years, reviews a manuscript from one of his former students. Sidney and his wife believe it could be the hit he needs to revive his career if the young writer is willing to collaborate. But when Sidney invites him to his home to discuss the manuscript, the evening takes a sinister turn, with deadly consequences. Critics have praised Deathtrap as one of the greatest thrillers ever written, with one calling it "Two-thirds a thriller and one-third a devilishly clever comedy." The play has been performed in theaters around the world, including a successful Broadway run that earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Play.
Aurora Players is at 166 South Grove Street, East Aurora.
