Second Generation Theatre kicks off its 5th season on November 4th with the well loved dark comedy, CRIMES OF THE HEART by Beth Henley. The touching story of the Magrath sisters runs from Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Lancaster Opera House.
Under the scorching heat of the Mississippi sun, the three Magrath sisters are back together in their hometown for the first time in a decade. Lenny, the eldest, is the caretaker of the sisters' cantankerous Old Granddaddy. Meg, the middle sister, left home to pursue stardom, but has, so far, only found happiness at the bottom of a bottle. And Babe, the youngest, has just been arrested for the attempted murder of her abusive husband. Winner of the 1981 Pulitzer Prize, this play teems with humanity and humor as the sisters' past resentments bubble to the surface and each must come to terms with the consequences of her own "crimes of the heart."
"To me, Beth Henley's 1981 Pulitzer Prize play, Crimes of the Heart, is about being family," says director Greg Natale. " I don't know about your upbringing, but my Buffalo-based Polish and Italian, Catholic childhood was chock-full of aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and siblings who ran the gamut of every personality type accessible to the human race (good and bad). A good play just knows how to take every individual audience member to their own experiences as the play pulls you into the world of the characters."
CRIMES OF THE HEART stars: Charmagne Chi (Lenny), Jessica Wegrzyn (Meg), Bethany Burrows (Babe), Arin Lee Dandes (Chick), Ben Michael Moran (Doc), and Jacob Albarella (Barnette).
