Raíces Theatre Company is officially joining Buffalo's thriving theatre community.

"All good things come to those who wait," said Raíces Founder and Artistic Director Victoria Pérez. "From the beginning of my artistic career it has been my dream to bring quality, enlightening and authentic Latino theatre to Buffalo. Co-founder Rolando M. Gómez and I have been on this road for 10 years waiting for the right moment and with the support of Road Less Traveled Productions the moment has arrived."

Raíces, which means "roots" in English, was chosen as the name for the company because it perfectly encompasses the belief that in order to truly understand who we are as Latinos we must celebrate the present and always look at who we have been in the past in order to have a clear vision for the future. Raíces Theatre Company is dedicated to the development, nourishment, and production of modern and original plays and musicals written by Latino playwrights and that deal with the Latino experience.

Raíces first 2013-2014 Season production will be La Gringa by Carmen Rivera and directed by Sheila M. Lopez. It will star the same cast seen during the VOCES LATINAS reading series last season: Sarielys Matos, Rolando M. Gómez, Victoria Pérez, Smirna Mercedes-Pérez, Dewel Pérez, and José Rivera. The show will run December 5th through 8th, 2013 (Thursday through Saturday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 6pm) at the Road Less Traveled Theater.

Raíces also will continue its annual VOCES LATINAS reading series. Plays and dates for the reading series are:

October 6th, 2013 - 21 by Vincent Toro, directed by Victoria Pérez
January 26th, 2014 - The House of Ramon Iglesias by José Rivera, directed by Victoria Pérez
March 23rd, 2014 - Divorciadas, Evangélicas y Vegetarianas by Gustavo Ott, directed by Sheila M. López
May 18th, 2014 - Welcome to Arroyo's by Kristoffer Díaz, directed by Rosa Fernández Rivera.

All readings will take place on Sundays at 6pm at the Road Less Traveled Theater inside the Market Arcade Film & Arts Centre. Following each reading the cast will join the audience for a Q&A session. Admission is a suggested donation of $5.00.
