Road Less Traveled Productions' (RLTP's) new late-night theatre program, RLTP: Blacklight , will premiere RE: Saved by the Bell November 12 th ; the show is written and directed by Shaun McLaughlin, author of RLTP's Curtain Up! production, Internal Continuity. McLaughlin calls the new comedy an "offbeat pastiche" of vintage episodes of the early 90s teen sitcom, "Saved by the Bell," populated with what McLaughlin suggested is an "unorthodox and very funny" cast, including actor Rolando Gomez as high school heartthrob "Slater." According to RLTP: Blacklight , RE: Saved by the Bell will "upend and mangle popular adventures in the life of its no-longer youthful" teenage characters.
RLTP: Blacklight launched in September 2011 with Domino Effect , the program's in-house improv troupe; the act will return beginning Friday, November 11 th . RLTP Artistic Director Scott Behrend labeled Domino Effect "wacky, zany, and highly caffeinated" and promised that the troupe would continue to deliver laughs, audience interaction, and "special guests stars." Domino Effect will also perform on November 25 th .
Other upcoming RLTP: Blacklight offerings include:
* Burtonesque (2/3/12 - 2/18/12), a theatrical fantasia inspired by the works of Tim Burton and directed by Drew McCabe, with Wendy Hall & Jenny Kulwicki;
* Dependent, Undisciplined, And Sleeping Late (3/10/12 - 3/31/12), a comedy written by Steve Roylance, directed by Kristin Bentley, and starring Jonathan Shuey and Jessica Wegrzyn, about two bickering and underachieving brothers;
* Walken to a Bar (4/21/12 - 4/28/12), which is (according to Behrend), "the world's first Christopher Walken tribute show," in which actor Aaron Krygier and RLTP Resident Playwright and Literary Director Jon Elston will essay classic scenes originally performed by the screen legend, as well as "classic scenes never performed by the screen legend, reimagined in the style of the screen legend"; and
* The Real Zombie Housewives of Buffalo (5/4/12 - 5/12/12), featuring the cast of RLTP's Domino Effect in an original parody of the popular series of reality TV shows, "with a timely twist! They're hot, they're fashionable, and they want to eat your flesh," Behrend said, adding that "Housewives have always been hot, while zombies have never been hotter!"
In related news, RLTP: Blacklight has added local actress/director Kristin Bentley to its leadership team. Bentley will oversee programming, publicity, and public relations matters for the program, while Drew McCabe and Justin Karcher continue to develop and direct world-premiere material.
"We're very pleased to have Ms. Bentley onboard to help nurture this very young and very promising program," said Behrend. "Her enthusiasm and focus will be a terrific complement to the creative visions of Mr. McCabe and Mr. Karcher." Bentley noted, "I'm absolutely thrilled to have this opportunity."
RLTP: Blacklight runs at 10:30PM every Friday and Saturday night of RLTP's 2011-2012 Season, following each season production. "Over the course of the season, RLTP: Blacklight will offer a mix of new, unusual, and hysterically funny entertainment," promised Bentley.
A full schedule of RLTP: Blacklight offerings through May 2012 is at www.roadlesstraveledproductions.org . All tickets for RLTP: Blacklight cost only $10 and are available at the Box Office 30 minutes before each performance.
