RLTP Announces 2019 Regional Playwright Resident

Road Less Traveled Productions' (RLTP) 2019 Regional Playwright Residency has been awarded to Derek Roland for development of his work Waist Deep. The residency will begin January 1st and culminate in a staged reading of his work at the end of 2019. As Regional Playwright Resident, Mr. Roland will have opportunities to work with actors, directors, and designers to develop his work in progress in consultation with the RLTP Literary Department.

Mr. Roland is a writer, director, choreographer, performer, and arts educator originally from Rochester, NY, as well as a graduate of Niagara University's Theatre Department (BFA in Theatre Studies). He is a long-standing company member of 3-time Drama Desk nominated Parallel Exit Theatre Company, and has worked Off-Broadway, on multiple national and international tours, and in New York at City Center, Town Hall, and New Victory. He recently completed the MSc Playwriting Program at the University of Edinburgh where he was awarded the William Hunter Sharpe Memorial Scholarship for playwriting. His plays include The Exhibit; Waist Deep; Peace and Quiet; as well as various other works in progress. His original rock musical Pie Eater was a Next Link selection for the NYMF 2016, and he wrote and composed an original piece in collaboration with Kate Garcia (Hamilton) for the International Human Rights Festival in 2017.
