MusicalFare Theatre's 2012-2013 Subscription Season consists of a world premiere musical, two regional premieres, and two reconceived classics. Opening with a reconceived THE MUSIC MAN directed by Chris Kelly, director of last year's new production of OLIVER!, and followed by the regional premiere of 33 VARIATIONS, a play with music directed by David Oliver and featuring Artistic Director, Randall Kramer, at the piano, the season continues with a production of RENT that promises to take the show back to its Off-Broadway roots. Then it's the regional premiere of 'SWONDERFUL: THE NEW GERSHWIN MUSICAL followed by the world premiere of TALK TO ME NOW which concludes the season!

Artistic Director Randall Kramer states "I am very excited at the sheer diversity of this season: from a classic such as THE MUSIC MAN to what has become a modern classic, RENT…from the incredible music of the Gershwins in 'SWONDERFUL to the exciting music of today's female songwriters in TALK TO ME NOW…and the regional premiere of 33 VARIATIONS, a play with music that traverses the time periods of Ludwig van Beethoven and a modern day historian while featuring some of the greatest music ever written for the piano…I can't wait for our 23rd season to begin!"

THE MUSIC MAN
September 5 – October 14, 2012
Directed by Chris Kelly
Choreographed by Bobby Cooke

Meredith Willson's classic THE MUSIC MAN follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa. But things go awry when he falls in love with the charming Marian the librarian in this heartfelt paean to small-town America. Conceived and staged by OLIVER director, Chris Kelly, this production will create a MUSIC MAN that you won't soon forget!

33 VARIATIONS
October 31 – December 2, 2012
Directed by David Oliver

Using Beethoven's Diabelli Variations as the link, we witness a mother coming to terms with her daughter and a composer coming to terms with his genius. And, even though they're separated by 200 years, these two people share an obsession that might, even just for a moment, make time stand still. Drama, memory and music combine to transport you from present-day New York to 19th century Austria in this extraordinary American play about passion, parenthood and the moments of beauty that can transform a life. Featuring MusicalFare Artistic Director, Randall Kramer, at the piano.

RENT
January 23 – March 3, 2013

It's an all new look at Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning musical. With its music stripped down to its essence and played by actors in a deliberate departure from the over amplified arena style performances that has earned the show the nickname Rant, this production of RENT promises to bring the compelling story to audiences in a whole new way.

'SWONDERFUL: THE NEW GERSHWIN MUSICAL
April 10 – May 19, 2013
Directed by Doug Weyand
Choreographed by Michael J. Walline

A singing and dancing extravaganza, featuring over 42 songs by the beloved Gershwin Brothers, including "Someone to Watch Over Me," "I've Got Rhythm," "Embraceable You," "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," "Our Love is Here to Stay" and more. The melodies flow through five mini-musicals inspired by stories of young love, beginning in 1920s New York City, moving to Paris in the 1930s, Hollywood in the '40s, New Orleans in the 1950s and ending in the present day. 'SWONDERFUL takes you on a nostalgic ride that has been called "a gem for Gershwin lovers, young and old."

TALK TO ME NOW
July 10 – August 17, 2013

In this exciting new musical, we meet Clara Schumann: a nineteenth century wife, mother, renowned performing artist, composer and teacher who redefined the role of a woman in her era. As her story unfolds, relationships, careers, and social change are all explored using the iconic music of today, bridging the gaps between past, present and future. Featuring the songs of female songwriters such as Carly Simon, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Leslie Gore, Melissa Etheridge, Sara Bareilles, Ani diFranco and many more.
