KATHERINE'S COLORED LIEUTENANT to Open Geva's 2015 Fielding Studio Series

Geva Theatre Center's 2015 Fielding Studio Series begins with the world premiere of Katherine's Colored Lieutenant by Nora Cole and is directed by David Schweizer. The production begins performances on February 5 and runs in the Fielding Nextstage through February 22.

Nora Cole (Fences, Voices of the Spirits in My Soul) digs deep into her family's history to tell the story of her uncle, a Tuskegee airman, and her aunt, a Louisville schoolteacher. A moving and captivating love story set amidst the racial divisions of the American South during and after WWII.

Nora Cole returns to Geva to conclude her journey as a TCG/Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellow with the world premiere of Katherine's Colored Lieutenant, which she wrote and in which she appears as Katherine. At Geva, Ms. Cole has appeared in Fences, Voices of the Spirits in My Soul, You Can't Take It With You, numerous readings and has been a featured playwright in both the 2013 and 2014 Festival of New Theatre. Outstanding performance credits include Rinde Eckert's two-character chamber opera And God Created Great Whales (Obie Award, Drama League and Audelco Nominee) at the Culture Project. With director, George C. Wolfe, Ms. Cole's credits include Caroline, or Change at the National Theatre in London; Jelly's Last Jam on Broadway opposite Gregory Hines and the national tour opposite Maurice Hines; and On the Town on Broadway. Regional credits include Doubt, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, The Colored Museum, The Good Times Are Killing Me, Avenue X, I Have A Dream, Langston Hughes Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz with Hale Smith original score and WNYC Selected Shorts. In addition to Katherine's Colored Lieutenant, Ms. Cole has written two solo shows: Voices of the Spirits in My Soul (Audelco nominee) and Olivia's Opus. Television credits include "The Cosby Mystery Movie," "All My Children," "Loving," "Another World," "Guiding Light," as well as numerous commercials and voice-overs. Ms. Cole received her B.F.A. at the Goodman School of Drama at the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the recipient of the Actors Theatre of Louisville Women in Music Award, Spencer Cherashore Fund Individual Artist Grant, Joseph Jefferson and Connecticut Critics Award nominee and Hedgebrook alum.

Michael Early plays Robert and is making his Geva Theatre Center debut. He most recently appeared as Lord Chamberlain in Henry VIII with the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. He understudied and performed the titular role in Satchmo at the Waldorf at the Westside Theatre. Mr. Early is an Associate Artist with Classical Theatre of Harlem, and has appeared at theatres around the country. Television credits include "Forever," "Royal Pains," "Damages," "Law & Order," "Law & Order: SVU," "Early Edition," "All My Children" and "One Life to Live." Mr. Early is on the faculty at Sarah Lawrence College and is a graduate of Yale School of Drama.

Katherine's Colored Lieutenant is directed by David Schweizer. The creative team includes Caleb Wertenbaker (Scenic Design), Amanda Doherty (Costume Design), Emily Stork (Lighting Design) and Dan Roach (Sound and Projection Design).

Katherine's Colored Lieutenant begins performances on February 5 and runs in the Fielding Nextstage through February 22.
