Chautauqua Theater Company (CTC) continues its significant commitment to new play development under the co-leadership of Artistic Directors Vivienne Benesch and Andrew Borba with Signature Staged Readings of The Glow Overhead written by Nick Gandiello, and directed by Sherri Eden Barber, running August 3 - 5 as part of the 2016 season's New Play Workshop. The Glow Overhead plays on the Bratton Theater stage at the Chautauqua Institution. Tickets are $20 and are currently on sale.
The Glow Overhead is the third and final new work of CTC's 2016 season, after nearly sold-out runs of the CTC's Signature Staged Reading of Tiny Houses by Chelsea Marcantel, and new play commission The Profane by Zayd Dohrn. Building on the success of new work this season, playwright Nick Gandiello brings us The Glow Overhead, an investigation into the depth of loss. Maryanne and Allan Dempsey's son disappeared in a deep cave dive many years ago and now a young and ambitious diver wants to retrieve his remains at great personal risk. Gandiello skillfully confronts loss and its aftermath in this achingly beautiful play.
The workshop cast includes Karen Pittman as Maryanne Dempsey, David Samuel as Edgar Thomas, Alex Raby as Vivie Thomas, Richard Topol as Allan Dempsey.
The creative team includes Bruno Pierre-Houle (Sets), Alexis Chaney (Costumes), Reza Behjat (Lights) and Josh Samuels (Sound).
Says playwright Nick Gandiello: "The Glow Overhead was inspired by true events involving a deep, dangerous dive into mysterious waters, but it evolved into a meditation on grief and on the hope and loyalty that moves people forward."
