Based on the 1989 cult classic film, Heathers, The Musical is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously sexy new kid J.D. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather's aerobicized ass... but J.D. has another plan for that bullet. Heathers, The Musical is a hilarious, heartfelt and homicidal new show based on the greatest teen comedy of all time.
"We're thrilled to be the first theatre in the upstate New York area to produce Heathers, The Musical," says Artistic and Managing Director and the shows director, Danny Hoskins. "Blackfriars has been known to push the envelope with darker, edgier pieces and Heathers definitely falls into this category. It's a bawdy, bouncy pop/rock score that took Off-Broadway by storm last season. The show tackles the struggles of high school with tongue-in-cheek satire, while staying true to its 1989 source material."
The cast stars Jimmy Boorum as Jason Dean and Kit Prelewitz as Veronica Sawyer, and features the talents of Jeff Andrews as Mr. Sweeney, Jessica Kaufman as Martha Dunnstock, Sammi Cohen as Heather Duke, Bobby Conte as Ram Sweeney, Abby Kate Herron as Heather McNamara, Brian Maxwell as Mr. Kelly, Johnnie Simmons as Kurt Kelly, Brynn Tyszka as Heather Chandler and Kerry Young as Ms. Fleming. The ensemble includes the talents of Alex Bodine, Alvis Green Jr., Rory Cushman, Lani Toyama Hoskins, Jacob Stewart and Courtney Maxwell. Musical direction by Andy Pratt and choreography by Mandy Hassett.
