Blackfriars Theatre Presents A CHORUS LINE ImageBlackfriars Theatre presents its 2018-2019 BTSI (Blackfriars Theatre Summer Intensive) production: A Chorus Line. This stunning concept musical captures the spirit and tension of a professional Broadway audition. Exploring the inner lives and poignant ambitions of professional Broadway gypsies, the show features one powerhouse number after another. A Chorus Line is the recipient of 9 Tony Awards, 4 Drama Desk Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

"Each summer our goal is to raise the bar to challenge and train the next generation of theatre artists. As we enter our third summer of our BTSI program, what better title to inspire a higher standard than the Pulitzer Prize-winning, iconic musical, A Chorus Line," shares Artistic & Managing Director, Danny Hoskins. "Each character in A Chorus Line is hustling and struggling to make their Broadway dream a reality, and it's a wonderful parallel as these young artists are maturing, training and yearning, day in and day out, to achieve the same level of prominence and success. It's an exciting process to watch their personal development as young dancers and singers, coalesce with the heart-warming, hopeful and true-to-life stories of their dramatic counterparts."

BTSI (pronounced Bitsy) was launched in the summer of 2016. The goal of the program is to provide professional level actor training to the next generation of artists. Focused on rising juniors in high school through newly graduated seniors in college, BTSI offers continued training for students who are interested in or are currently studying to pursue a career in the field. BTSI offers students a 6-week program culminating in a musical theatre performance. Over the course of the program, students focus on ensemble building, actor training and performance process (acting, voice and dance). The BTSI program begins at the end of May and runs through the middle of July.

The A Chorus Line cast includes Demetrio Alomar (Paul), Evan Balasubramaniam (Richie), Avery Carlson (Val), Abby DeWitte (Bebe), Sophia Foti (Ensemble), Sam Guida (Ensemble), Becca Hammack (Ensemble), Abigail Hazlett (Judy), Nash Johns (Ensemble), Nathan Kelly (Greg), Melanie McBride (Sheila), Liana Monaco (Laura), Eli Owens (Mike), Allie Perine (Maggie), Ariana Rivera (Cassie), Tommy Rector (Bobby), Adriana Scalice (Diana), Georgia VanRy (Ensemble), Bridget Welch (Kristine), and Ian Yates (Al). The production is directed by Mr. Hoskins, with musical direction by Andy Pratt and choreography by Lani Toyama Hoskins and Cordelia Kwon.
