Since 2012 Tyrone Huston (aka: Legendary) has been doing open mic with his free style poetry.

He has performed at 1000 Poets for change, The Blackness Project, Curtain Up, (Phenominal Xpressions), Pure Ink at the Gypsy Parlor, Wordism, The Jefferson Library, several radio broadcast shows and etc. etc. etc.

He doesn't seem to slow down.

Well Saturday, October 15, 2016 he hit a milestone:

Legendary did his 100th Performance as a Poet!

MCL: Where was your first reading?

L: My first reading was four years ago at an open mic at what used to be called The 2nd Cup in downtown buffalo. It was an event part of the Sankofa days celebration. I was at my summer job when a co-worker had told me about it. I was ecstatic. When I got there I was loaded with energy being my first open mic. I read a couple pieces off of my phone, was completely nervous, but had a blast. And as they say, "the rest is history". The best part I got to meet the granddaughter on Bob Marley!

MCL: Do you remember what piece you read?

L: I think I read the piece "My Everywhere " which was basically giving some of my personal experiences, physical health, deaths friends, and things of that nature. A lot of my work is kind of "try walking in my shoes" because people have the assumption that just because a life isn't as bad as it could be or could've been, it's a piece of cake. ooooo cake lol.

MCL: Did you start off as Legendary or Tyrone Huston?

L: I started off as Tyrone Huston. Never really thought about putting down a stage name I figured I was doing good if my last name was pronounced right, 40% of the time it still isn't but its better than it was.

MCL: How did Legendary come about?

L: In 2014 I did a showcase after nailing an audition. I still didn't have a stage name at the time so when calling the promoter of the show would say, "I'm looking for the Legendary Tyrone Huston". At the night of the show I look in the program and it says "Tyrone Huston aka Legendary" I figured what the heck. Also, the night before I called my second oldest brother and he said "think legendary status" so it stuck. Since then I'm told very often I deserve that name.

MCL: How many performances before you found your style?

L: I Hmmm somewhere in the first ten.....

MCL: What was the first Poem you performed where you said this is Legendary? Please share.

L: This is a good question To be honest I couldn't tell you.

MCL: You finally hit one Hundred performances what is your next goal?

L: Well, to hit 200! but I also hope to do a little traveling with the art to different cities or states like Atlanta, New York, California, That kind of thing. These four years have been awesome and I appreciate every open venue, recommendation, good review and ride I've ever gotten!!

MCL:We will be back talking about his 200th performance very soon!
